Thanks to Mayor Dial keeping the Ketchikan airport open for independent travelers, many Ketchikan businesses that were not cruise-ship dependent were able to operate during the 2020 pandemic and survive, if not thrive.

After a successful tourism season, it’s a election time in Ketchikan and the pro-economy candidate, Mayor Rodney Dial, is up for re-election. Rodney Dial was asked to run for Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly and served until 2019. After which he was elected as Borough Mayor and has served Ketchikan in that capacity until this present day. As a retired Alaska State Trooper, Rodney Dial has made the Office of Borough Mayor his full-time job with no other commitments or distractions. He has his finger on the pulse of Ketchikan’s public safety and its thriving economy. Thanks to Mayor Dial keeping the Ketchikan airport open for independent travelers, many Ketchikan businesses that were not cruise-ship dependent were able to operate during the 2020 pandemic and survive, if not thrive.
